The Ending: 18 Cents and a Pack of Candy (Part 2 of The Million Dong Glasses)
The morning after the "Million Dong Glasses" incident, on the way to school, Mom asked Boons:
— What do you need to do today?
Boons answered very clearly:
— I'll ask for his phone number so you can talk to his mom. I'll also ask for the phone number of the uncle at the campsite, so if he finds it, he can call us.
That afternoon, as soon as Boons got home from school, Mom asked right away:
— So, how did it go?
Boons suddenly pretended to pout:
— Guess, Mom—good news or bad news?
Seeing that cheeky look, Mom calmly replied:
— It's good news, right? I know you too well. If it was bad news, you'd be all quiet with red cheeks, not standing here putting on a show like this.
Boons immediately brightened up:
— He said his mom forgave me, and I don't have to pay for the glasses anymore!
Mom breathed a sigh of relief:
— Phew, that's lucky. 😌
But Boons wasn't done yet:
— But I do have to buy him some candy to make up for it. So I need to get 18 cents to buy candy.
Mom nodded:
— Yeah, that sounds fair.
So in the end, the million dong glasses didn't actually cost our family a million dong.
But Boons still had to take responsibility with an apology, a pack of candy, and 18 cents he earned himself.
Just enough of a price for a little boy to remember the lesson. 🍬
And just sweet enough to wrap up the story.
Or to be exact: an ending worth 18 cents and a pack of candy. ✨
