Today Boons Cooks
Besides watching game reviews and anime reviews, Boons has another pretty... practical hobby: watching mukbangs and cooking videos.
The other day, he excitedly told Mom:
— "I just saw a dish that's super easy to make, Mom. You just have to boil eggs, mash them up, mix with mayonnaise, and spread it on crispy toasted sandwich bread. How about we try it sometime? It'd be perfect for breakfast, and it's convenient too."
Sounds pretty reasonable.
Mom agreed right away.
That afternoon, Mom went down to the bakery to buy sandwich bread, and stopped by the grocery store to grab a bottle of mayonnaise.
From that day on, "mashed egg sandwich" officially joined our breakfast menu.
Boons likes it.
Mom likes it too.
It's quick, simple, easy to make, has eggs, has bread, and with a glass of milk, Mom feels like breakfast is pretty complete. No more standing around half-asleep in the morning thinking:
— "What should I feed him now?"
This morning was the weekend.
Boons slept in for a while before getting up, then wanted his favorite egg sandwich again.
Mom had already boiled the eggs.
But just as he woke up, Mom was in the middle of working.
So Mom took out the bread, eggs, and mayonnaise, set them on the counter, and gave him a quick rundown:
— "Can you make it yourself now? When you're done, remember to clean up the kitchen and wash all the utensils. I'll give you extra skill points."
He nodded.
Mom looked at him for a second.
Then decided... to trust him for now.
And went back to work.
About ten minutes later, Mom came out.
Huh.
He actually finished.
The sandwiches were neatly arranged on the plate.
Mashed eggs mixed with mayonnaise were sitting nicely on top.
The counter was wiped clean.
Chopsticks and spoons were washed.
There was no disaster zone like Mom had quietly braced herself for.
Mom stood there for a few seconds, quietly proud inside.
Then asked him:
— "Hold on, let me take a check-in photo."

See?
A lot of times, grown-ups just assume kids can't do things, so we do it ourselves to save time.
But really, sometimes you have to step back, give them the job, and... trust them.
And turns out, he really can do it.
From a dish he happened to see on YouTube, then asked Mom to try, to a weekend morning where he made breakfast himself and cleaned up the kitchen afterward.
It only took ten minutes.
But suddenly, Mom felt like he grew up a little more.
He's growing up so fast.
It won't be long before the day comes when Mom's sitting in the living room and he's in the kitchen calling out:
— "Mom, dinner's ready!"
Thinking about that, Mom feels pretty good.
After nearly ten years of raising a kid, finally the investment is starting to... pay off. =))))
